Vintage styles gain popularity among brides

PLAINFIELD — The staff at David’s Bridal is seeing an uptick of popularity of vintage styles this wedding season.

Beth Barber is the assistant manager of David’s Bridal in Greenwood. She said their store can help any bride find her dream dress.

“We have a dress for everyone here at David’s Bridal,” Barber said. “It will be a great value and high quality.”

She said most bridal fashions this year are drifting toward the vintage lace style.

“We have a lot of brides getting married in a barn setting,” she said. “That vintage flair or sophisticated country style wedding is becoming very popular.”

She said dresses that are fitted over the hips and flair from the waist are getting the hearts of a lot of brides.

“The David’s Bridal line is a classical American line with lots of styles,” she said. “Dress V3469 has lace on top with at tulle skirting. This is a dress you can really make your own by adding sashes or broaches. You can even add a pop of color.”

She said the more fashion forward brides are looking at the Galina Signature Collection.

“The high-low SPK 470 is flirty and sexy, but glamorous at the same time,” Barber said. “It has an organza pick up skirt on the side of the leg. You can put on a really sparkly shoe. It’s a very confident look.”

Brides are also enjoying the Oleg Cassini line.

“He actually did fashions for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Marilyn Monroe, and Liz Taylor,” she said. “He did the American royalty and really gives an attention to detail. Brides want that designer feel.”

Barber said David’s Bridal also has the new White by Vera Wang Dresses.

“These dresses are priced for our David’s Bridal clientele,” she said. “Her designs are more naturalistic — not a lot of beading. There are more fabric details and lace — soft details. She also does a lot of pleating and style where she layers the fabrics. Her gowns flow beautifully.”

There is also a new line called Luxe by David’s Bridal.

“Luxe stands for luxurious,” Barber said. “The collection takes classic tradition and gives it a flair of opulence and detail. The PMK 3441 dress is taffeta with a pickup ball gown skirt. It has an illusion bodice and a cathedral train. It makes a grand statement.”

She said many brides are also looking at tea-length gowns.

“A lot of brides are shopping for tea-length gowns,” she said. “They can wear a pair of cute peep toe heels and a bird cage veil. It has a fun, almost garden party, feel to it. The Oleg Cassini line also has a tea-length dress. It has an almost vintage ‘50s look.”
