DANVILLE —
From noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 11, business professionals will have an opportunity to learn ways to grow their businesses while networking with others at the Grow Your Business event at the Hendricks County 4-H Conference Center in Danville.
This annual event, organized by the Hendricks County Professional Business Women’s Association (HCPBWA), raises funds for the group’s scholarship program that supports women pursuing higher education in a business-related field.
The event’s feature speaker is T.J. Couzens, president of Brand X Research.
He will share information on how to market a business’ products and services to women decision-makers. Couzens founded Brand X Research in 2009.
His organization is the only company currently focused on research and marketing implementation geared exclusively toward women, helping clients communicate more authentically and honestly with women.
Danny O’Malia, owner of Indy’s Trusted Servant, a Carmel-based customer service consulting firm, will also be speaking. He says he learned everything he knows about customer service from his late father, Joe O’Malia, owner of O’Malia’s grocery stores. From the time he joined the family business in 1975 to his years as president of O’Malia’s from 1986 through 2006, he learned that every aspect of business involves customer service. O’Malia will share his knowledge based on his customer service experiences.
Also speaking will be Nikki Lewallen, executive director of Rainmakers. Her specialty is teaching people how to build business connections that become long-term strategic relationships, so they can achieve an annuity stream of business rather than a one-time sale. Lewallen will provide event attendees with insight into strategic networking that they can apply in their businesses.

Couzens, Danny O’Malia, and Nikki Lewallen speak at our event,” Patti Henson, HCPBWA president, said in a press release. “The insights gained from these presentations will ultimately help business professionals attract and retain customers, so they can take their businesses to the next level of success.”
Additionally at the event, business professionals will have an opportunity to visit several vendor booths to learn more about other local businesses and the products and services they provide.
As part of HCPBWA’s fundraising efforts, attendees will have an opportunity to purchase tickets to win several vendor-supplied door prizes, as well as a grand prize gift basket valued at more than $300. Attendees must be present to win.
This year, HCPBWA awarded $1,000 scholarships to Avon High School seniors Lauren Gerulski and Riley Larkin, and returning adult student Heather Killion of Avon. Gerulski is a marketing and business major at Ball State University; while Larkin is pursuing an accounting degree at Trine University. Killion is enrolled in the accelerated nursing program at Marian University and plans to work in the oncology field.
