AVON — A two-car collision Monday afternoon resulted in two people going to a hospital and traffic to be snarled on Rockville Road in Avon.
Bill Weems, Avon’s assistant police chief, reported the accident happened about 2 p.m. at U.S. 36 and County Road 900 East.
A male driving a silver Mercury Cougar was traveling eastbound in the left lane and adjusting his stereo when police say he drifted into the turn lane at 900 East. That’s when officials report his car rear-ended a silver Dodge Stratus being driven by an adult male with a 2- to 3-year-old female passenger.
The collision caused the Stratus to go into the ditch at the northeast portion of the intersection. Police say the driver of the Mercury Cougar and his adult male passenger suffered minor injuries and were transported to a hospital. Those in the Stratus reportedly suffered no injuries.
The accident closed both westbound lanes of U.S. 36 in Avon while crews cleaned up the accident scene. Eastbound lanes were subsequently backed up by traffic in the area for nearly a mile.
