AEF Black and Gold Gala returns

AVON — The Avon Education Foundation will be hosting its annual Black and Gold Gala from 6 to 10 p.m. April 20 at Serendipity at Metropolis in Plainfield.

Despite the potential risk of disrupting a successful four-year tradition, AEF chose to postpone its annual fall event until spring 2013 in order to minimize conflict with major student athletic and band activities in the fall.

“We want to extend a personal invitation to anyone who cares about schools and children to attend this year’s gala for which we have fun, new activities planned,” AEF Executive Director Pam DeWeese said. “As AEF’s biggest fundraising event of the year, we not only want it to be successful, we want everyone in our community to feel welcome and to want to attend.”

AEF annually funds nearly $68,000 in educational programs for Avon Schools, some of which would have been eliminated due to budget cuts, without AEF support. A few of the program AEF funds are freshman orientation, after-school study tables, reading remediation, and courses like Gateway to Technology.

AEF’s ability to continue to fund important academic programs is dependent upon tax-deductible donations and attendance at the gala.

DeWeese said there will be lower ticket prices this year, in addition to new games and humorous live “mind tripping” entertainment.

In addition to a cocktail hour and dinner, there will be both silent and live auctions with items such as laptop computers, Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers tickets, autographed items, dinners at fine restaurants, and other items that will appeal to children and their parents such as teacher trips and parties, reserved front row seats at graduation, guest music conducting, honorary athletic team positions, a school bus driving lesson, free computer help, golf with the superintendent, and more.

A list of auction items will be on the AEF website in the weeks prior to the event.

AEF is a charitable organization devoted to serving the educational needs of Avon students in all 12 of its public schools. Funded by donations, it receives requests for additional academic support from schools every year.

Ticket to the gala are $60 per person or $120 per couple. Advance sale tickets are required and available at the Avon Administration Center or online at www.avoneducationfoundation.org.

Serendipity is at 2499 Futura Park Way, Suite 205, Plainfield.
