Summit Place West holds safe trick-or-treat event

INDIANAPOLIS — The staff and residents at Summit Place West are ready for Halloween and are planning the 2012 Fall Festival for youth on the westside. The facility will be putting on a safe trick-or-treat event beginning at 6 p.m. Oct. 31.

Summit Place West is a senior community with both an assisted living facility and independent living condos. This will give trick-or-treaters 70 doors to knock on.

Facility administrator Kevin Albrecht recently joined the staff and wanted to hit the ground running with this free community event.

“This week I have been at the facility for one month,” he said. “This is my first facility and I’m very excited about it. The residents here are very active. They like to joke around and have a good time.”

Albrecht grew up on the east side of Indianapolis and graduated from New Palestine High School. He attended Purdue University and received his license to be an administrator earlier this year.

“I just moved to the Westside and I’m really enjoying it,” Albrecht said. “When they told me I was coming here, I was very happy. The facility has 60 apartments and 10 condos.”

He said there are about 70 residents at Summit Place West right now and they’re ready to host some holiday fun.

“It’s an opportunity for people to have a safe place to trick-or-treat in one quick stop,” he said. “And it’s a lot of fun for our residents as well.”

The residents of Summit Place West are being encouraged to decorate their doors for Halloween and hand out candy. The facility will be providing candy for those who may not be able to afford to purchase it on their own.

“We don’t want money to hold anybody back from participating,” Albrecht said. “We want everyone who wants to to be able to hand out candy.”

In addition to the trick-or-treating, there will be games for children in the activities room. It will also be a good place to warm up and get refreshments.

“This will be beneficial for our residents and the kids,” he said. “And the residents here do have a lot of fun. We have a resident that is 90 years old that is quicker than I am. They’re sharper than me.”

The Fall Festival will also be holding a costume contest for children ages 12 and younger. There will also be a costume contest for residents of Summit Place West.

Summit Place West is at 55 N. Mission Drive, Indianapolis, off of Rockville Road, just west of the I-465 interchange.
