Beacon of Hope hosts annual fundraiser

INDIANAPOLIS — Beacon of Hope, non-profit agency that works to help victims of domestic violence, is holding a winter fundraiser title An Evening of Hope and All That Jazz.

The event is 5 to 10:30 p.m. March 9 at the Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel at Keystone Crossing. Cost is $75 per person and it is for adults ages 21 and older.

Proceeds will primarily go toward funding additional counseling.

“This event is a really elegant evening and it’s fun,” Terry Moore, director of Beacon of Hope. “We’ve never had the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra before, so we’re very excited about that. A board member approached them, and they were right on board right away.”

There will be a full plated dinner, music, dancing, and both live and silent auctions. Some of the auction items include a chance to sit in Mayor Greg Ballard’s suite for an Indiana Pacers game, Walt Disney World hopper passes, an Indy Racing Experience, and a high-end jewelry raffle with jewelry from the night’s sponsor, Distinctive Diamonds.

“I believe it has had this much success because when we have events we make sure it’s flawless, fun, and very entertaining for the community,” Moore said. “The community really comes out and wraps their arms around Beacon of Hope.”

As they have with most of their events, BOH has had to change facilities because the events have outgrown themselves. This is the first year at the Sheraton, which can hold 400 participants.

“It’s important as ever because we’re still in an economic downturn and the demand of services for domestic violence organizations is increasing every day,” Moore said. “Already in January, I know for a fact we’ve had five domestic violence related murders in 2013 in Indianapolis.”

Moore said she doesn’t see the trend shifting until things get better economically.

“We’re going to see an increase because one, of the economy, and two, people are just snapping,” she said. “We do need more supporters to come on and help us because I truly believe people are still naive out there and think that domestic violence is not in their communities, churches, and neighborhoods, because it is. Our goal for 2013 is to saturate the Westside, because we’re here to help.”

For more information about an Evening of Hope and All That Jazz, visit the BOH website at beaconofhopeindy.org. Reservations must be reserved by Feb. 25 by calling 731-6131. Donations or checks for the event may be made payable to Beacon of Hope by sent to P.O. Box 34318, Indianapolis, IN 46234.

The Sheraton is at 8787 Keystone Crossing, Indianapolis.
