Last Saturday marked the seventh year of the Brides to Be Expo, which was again hosted by the Hendricks County Flyer and the Hendricks County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Five Star Catering at Primo West, 2353 E. Hadley Road, Plainfield, and featured more than 30 vendors, making it a “one stop shop” for information on everything needed to make a wedding day special.

Brides that attended the free event were able to visit booths hosted by catering companies, hair salons, venues, photo booths, and more, to get an idea of how they want their wedding to look.

Angie Nauman from The Fountain Square Theatre Building gave brides who stopped by her booth an idea of what their wedding would look like in the historic building.

“We’re an event facility,” she said. “We’re located in downtown Indianapolis, the southeast corner. We are a historic district in the Indianapolis area. We do wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, and we’re just an all-around event facility.”

Nauman said the building, which was built in 1928, has undergone renovations, but the focus was to restore it to its original splendor. By consulting old photos of the building, she said they were able to update the facility, but maintain the historic feel.

She added that the venue, with its hand-painted theatre, is perfect for someone wanting a one-of-a-kind wedding. She said the facility can host both the ceremony and the reception.

“We can accommodate anywhere from groups of 20 up to 350 (people),” Nauman said. “All of our catering is done in-house, with the exception of your wedding cake.”

Brides and their families could also gather information about what kinds of sweets they want from vendors like Sweetheart Cupcakes, 212 E. Main St., Plainfield.

Nancy Muller explained what Sweetheart Cupcakes can offer and gave samples of the homemade cupcakes to anyone interested.

“We do all kinds of events, (like) weddings, showers, and office parties,” Muller said. “We’ve done as many as 1,300 people. We have over 70 flavors. We can customize the cupcakes to fit their theme and everything is made from scratch.”

While the business specializes in cupcakes, it also offers cookies, coffee, and hand-dipped ice cream.

JoAnn Masterson from The Porch, 2411 E. Main St., Danville, had examples of place settings at her booth.

She said The Porch typically focuses on smaller events like bridal showers and other private parties.

“We offer lunch Tuesday through Saturday ... soup, salad, sandwiches are our menu,” Masterson said. “We’re here because we’re trying to (do) private parties and small get-togethers, less than 40 people. We have a $200 minimum booking fee.”

She said The Porch offers both served and buffet styles for more low-budget, but high quality, catering options.

Masterson said all menu items are prepared in a health conscious, homemade manner using all-natural and organic ingredients.

The expo also featured door prizes from each of the vendors worth at least $25 and the first 100 brides through the door received a free wedding planner.

Among the highlights each year is a strolling fashion show, giving brides and grooms a look at the latest styles.

New this year was a giveaway for an overnight stay and dinner in downtown Indianapolis, as well as a harpist greeting people as they entered the expo.
