‘Be Fearless’ bra auction benefits ACS

AVON — Just the facts

WHAT: Be Fearless Bra Auction and Evening Out

WHEN: 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 13

WHERE: Prestwick Country Club, Avon

Girls are generally taught not to show their undergarments. But the women planning the “Be Fearless” Bra Auction and Evening Out have made it their mission to bare it all.

The second annual event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 13 at Prestwick Country Club in Avon and benefits the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

“I was the chair for this last year,” said Lisa Maccaroni. “We didn’t have any idea of the response we would get. We had 169 people in attendance and we brought in $6,000 before expenses.”

Prior to the event, members of the community decorate or create bras that are included in an auction. The more creative the better.

“A team of about five of us has been working on this event,” Maccaroni said. “Prestwick has been awesome and the community has been really getting behind us to support it.”

The event is being billed as a ‘ladies night out’ event full of entertainment and fun. There will be an array of appetizers and deserts, along with iced tea, lemonade, and coffee. There will also be a selection of house wines and sodas available for purchase.

“We have a small music group providing the entertainment and Brandon Lawson will be doing the auctioning,” Maccaroni said.

She said Lawson did the live auction last year and said he had never heard of a bra auction.

“Well, he can’t say that now,” she laughed. “This year we have even more varied items. They are amazing. Things I never would have dreamed of. And everything is donated.”

Maccaroni is a clinical dietitian with Hendricks Regional Health.

“I work at the HRH cancer center, seeing patients,” she said. “Through that center, we see an awful lot of breast cancer patients. You just catch the bug and want to support their cause.”

She co-chairs this event with Eva Burgan.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. To purchase tickets, call 626-9221.

Tickets are also available in the gift shop at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville and at the cancer center.

The Making Strides event is Oct. 6 at the Hendricks Regional Health YMCA in Avon.

“We’re hoping that this will become the girls night out event in Hendricks County,” Maccaroni said. “We hope people keep coming back year after year.”
