Fire claims the life of North Salem woman

AVON — Authorities continue to investigate a Saturday fire that took the life of a North Salem woman.

Virginia “Ginger” Stultz, 42, died at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville.

The North Salem Fire Department was dispatched to Stultz’s residence on South Broadway Street and firefighters pulled Stultz from the home. Authorities say she was the only one at home at the time of the fire.

“During the primary search, crews entered the home, continued their search,” said Matthew Petro of the Liberty Township Fire Department. “They came across the victim in one of the bedrooms. That victim was transported to Hendricks Regional (Health) where she was later pronounced deceased.”

Petro said the fire was under control in less than 30 minutes and its cause is still under investigation.

Firefighters from eight departments responded to the fire.

Stultz was a 1989 graduate of Danville Community High School. She had currently worked as a secretary in the school’s athletic department and had previously served as secretary to the principal.

She is survived by her father, three children, a brother, and three sisters.

Services are 7 p.m. Thursday at Hazelwood Christian Church, with calling for three hours prior. A graveside service is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Bethesda Cemetery in West Terre Haute.

Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home in Danville is handling arrangements.
