Police seek fugitive

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is looking for a fugitive who managed to escape from the back of a patrol car yesterday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to the 8100 block of East 34th Street shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday on a report of a burglary in progress. When the arrived, the burglars had fled, but a witness gave a description of their vehicle.

Police found the vehicle on a nearby street and a short vehicle pursuit ensued. The driver, later identified as 17-year-old Larry Williams, was immediately taken into custody along with an unidentified passenger.

Both suspects were positively identified as the men who had just burglarized the victim’s residence.

While officers were processing paper work, Williams, who was handcuffed and seated in the back of a patrol car, opened the vehicle’s door and fled.

Officers immediately gave chase and an exhaustive search that involved the IMPD K-9 unit and several uniform officers was initiated, but Williams was not located.

He is described as 5’6” tall, weighing 160 pounds, with a thin mustache and possible gold teeth. When last seen, he was wearing a gray hoodie, blue jeans, and Adidas tennis shoes with three dark gray vertical stripes.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the police at 9-1-1 or CRIME STOPPERS at 262-TIPS (8477). Callers may also text “INDYCS,” plus tip information, to 274627 (CRIMES).
