Chapman’s Cleaning Service now under new ownership

After nearly 30 years in business, Steve Chapman is handing the keys of Chapman’s Cleaning Service over to long-time friend and former co-worker Garrett Perry.

“I’ve been working in the carpet and upholstery cleaning business since the mid-80s,” Chapman said. “Garrett and I both grew up in Brownsburg and have known each other for 29 years.”

Both families now live in Avon.

Chapman started out in Hendricks County as a franchisee of the Servicemaster Quality Cleaning company.

Perry had actually worked for Chapman for a long period of time, so he knows the business and how it should run.

“This is still a family owned and Christian business,” Chapman said. “All the work is done by the owner, not an employee.”

For Chapman, and now Perry, the business is based on building relationships with customers. The company has enjoyed a high retention rate with customers and gets most of its new business from referrals.

“It’s very important to us to honor God in everything we do,” Perry said. “We have discounts for church members.”

Perry is also a veteran of the Indiana National Guard and is a member of the Avon American Legion. The business also offers discounts to military, police, and fire personnel.

When Chapman decided it was time to retire, he approached his long-time friend about taking over the business.

“It seemed like the right fit at the right time,” Perry said. “In our lives, God closes doors and God opens doors.”

He said he’s excited about the business and is thankful for continued help from Chapman.

“I’m still helping out as a consultant and try to make myself available when he needs help,” Chapman said. “I know he’s already looking for ways to grow and expand the business.”

He added that he already knows he’s going to miss his regular customers.

“I will miss the interaction,” he said. “It’s the people I will miss most. I’ve been honored to be invited to some milestone events in my customers’ lives.”

Chapman said as long as you love your work, it will never feel like it’s just a ‘job.’

“I loved doing a good job for my customers and getting to know them,” he said. “And I got paid to do what I love.”

Perry said he’s also a “people person” and is already having a good time meeting his customers.

“I really enjoying talking to people,” he said.

Chapman’s Cleaning Service will be offering specials during October and November to celebrate the new ownership. Discounts can be tailored to a customer’s needs.

“If our discounts don’t fit, we can customize our offers,” Perry said.

To make an appointment, call Perry at 858-1713 or 272-2114.
