Anti-bullying event held Oct. 6

PLAINFIELD —

The Indianapolis-based anti-bullying non-profit Angels and Doves will be hosting a ride/concert to mark October as Anti-Bullying Month. The Music Festival and Charity Ride runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at The Coachman restaurant in Plainfield.

The organization is led by Kim Harvey who co-founded Angels and Doves, a national foundation designed to educate and prevent adolescent bullying.

“We’re going to kick off the anti-bullying day with a teen band — Garrett Godsey,” Harvey said. “Our headliner will be Picture Yes. They will take the stage at 4:30 p.m.”

Other bands performing will be Jacobi Road, Frank Bradford of The Wright Brothers, Doug Henthorn of The Healing Sixes, and Cockeyed Clyde.

“This will be a fun day with seven hours of good music, good food, and good drink,” Harvey said. “It will be a day we can gather together to lean more about bullying and support the cause.”

The band Saving Abel is the national spokesband for Angels and Doves.

“They have our event listed on their website,” Harvey said. “They were hoping to make out it out here, but they can’t make it here after their show the night before.”

The two major sponsors for the day will be Budweiser and Hardees. Other sponsors include Hendricks Regional Health, Tom Wood, Cracker Barrel, and Crackers.

“We have a 30x75-foot tent,” Harvey said. “So we have a great beer and food vendor. We also have seven food trucks coming.”

Tickets for the music festival and charity ride are $20. Tickets may be purchased online or the day of the event.

“There will also be three rides taking place,” Harvey said. “There will be riders leaving from Harley Kokomo, Indianapolis Southside Harley, and Mann’s Harley-Davidson in Edinburgh.”

Riders can leave from one of those locations or just arrive at the Plainfield event and pay there.

“I’d like to thank everybody in Hendricks County and Marion County who have helped and supported this event,” Harvey said. “So many people have be gracious to donate various items needed to hold this event. They’ve walked along with us on this journey and I am very very thankful.”

The Coachman is at 6112 Cambridge Way, Plainfield, just off of the interchange at I-70 and State Road 267.

Proceeds from the music festival and ride will benefit Angels and Doves which offers school programs that educates teachers and students on bullying.

During the event, Harvey will also be signing copies of her new book, The Bully Book.

The Bully Book is a workbook for children to learn about bullying, aggression, and how to deal with it.
