Buck Creek Players present Yuletide fantasy

INDIANAPOLIS — The Buck Creek Players will continue their 2012-13 season "In the Spotlight" with the Yuletide fantasy "A Little Christmas Spirit," written by Pat Cook.

Opening Nov. 30 and running for three weekends through Dec. 16, curtain times are 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with 2:30 p.m. matinees offered on Sundays. All performances are at Buck Creek Playhouse, 11150 Southeastern Ave. Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for children, students (through college), and senior citizens (ages 62 and older). Reservations are recommended and may be reserved online at www.buckcreekplayers.com or by calling 862-2270. Group discounts are also available for parties of 10 or more.

J. D. Morse (Dennis Karr) has been looking high and low for a special Christmas gift for his grandson. Finally, as a last resort, he wanders into Nick's Emporium, an old-fashioned store chock full of all sorts of gifts and knickknacks. He has a hard time explaining to Nick (John D. Carver) what he's looking for, but finds himself falling under the old storekeeper's spell.

Just when Morse is about to buy something, he runs to the street to chase kids away from his car. When he returns, he finds the store suddenly dark and quiet. A policeman (Marcus T. Goodrich) then shows up to run him off because, "This place ain't been open in 40 years!" Morse finds a way back, not only to the store but to a time years ago when he was a younger man.

This Yuletide fantasy, suitable for the entire family, is full of holiday spirit and humor and makes us all wish we could find "Nick's Emporium," where life stands still and we can all truly enjoy a little Christmas spirit. Rounding out the cast of 11 are: Grace Groh, Sarah Groh, Lauren M. Hanson, Rachel Head, Laurel Murphy, David Piland, Elizabeth Popplewell, and Alexis Rouse.

Kenneth C. Kern makes his return to direct for Buck Creek Players after last appearing on our stage as President Franklin D. Roosevelt in "Annie: The BCP Play-A-Part Fundraiser" in 2011. Previous directing projects for the playhouse have included "A Christmas Carol: Scrooge & Marley," "Dad's Christmas Miracle," and "The Christmas Express."

Joining Kern on the production team are Cheryl Kern and Lynne B. Robinson (producers), Linda Rowand (assistant director), Melissa DeVito (set design and construction), Jillian Schleicher (set decoration), Jeff Rowand (lighting designer), D. Scott Robinson (sound designer), Clance LaTurner (costume coordinator), Patrick Banks (stage manager), Heather Aislynn Johns (properties), and Jennifer Bower (costume assistant).
