Lucas Oil Raceway sets 2013 Schedule

Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis has announced the 2013 racing schedule with world class events coming to both the drag strip and the oval during the course of the busy season.

“We are anxiously awaiting the start of the 2013 season and another year of racing at Lucas Oil Raceway,” said Wes Collier, general manager of Lucas Oil Raceway. “Each season at this storied facility is full of treasured memories of thrilling racing and we are sure this year will again be another banner season at Lucas Oil Raceway.”

The highlight of the season will be the NHRA U.S. Nationals, featuring the Mello Yello Drag Racing series as they return to the track for their annual Labor Day weekend visit. Nearly 1,000 racers will be looking to put their names in the history books as the event kicks off Aug. 28 and concludes Sept. 2. This is the last race to the Countdown to the Championship and drivers will be battling to keep their playoff dreams alive while trying to win the most prestigious race in drag racing.

Other showcase events include the return of the JEGS U.S. Open Bracket Championship June 20-23, Monster Mopar June 28-30, and the 12th annual FuelLab NMCA World Series Street Finals on Oct. 11-13.

The bracket series will compete at the track 10 times during the course of the season with King of the Track, Junior Dragster Challenge, and National Dragster Challenge taking place. Wild Wednesdays, which features street legal racing and slick tire test and tunes, will run April through October.

The oval will see action with the yearly visits from some of the finest open wheel racers in the country racing on the .686-mile oval as the USAC Midgets and Silver Crown series come to the track.

The Night Before the 500 is a month of May tradition and a USAC double header will take to the track in July.

The CRA and Must See Racing Winged Sprints will also run on a track that features the tightest racing in the state in a fan friendly and intimate setting.

Ticket information and event specific information will be available in the coming months.

One of five drag racing facilities owned and operated by the National Hot Rod Association, Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis was built in 1960 and has presented organized racing events since 1961. From March through October, the facility hosts more than 120 dates of racing on three tracks: a quarter-mile drag strip, a .686-mile paved oval, and a 2.5-mile road course.

Home to drag racing’s biggest event, the NHRA Mac Tools U.S. Nationals over Labor Day weekend, the drag strip runs more than 50 days of point-to-point action, from national events to street legal community programs. The oval track draws racing’s biggest events including USAC and CRA races. The road course provides a home for several racing sanctions, while providing an ideal resource for driving schools, corporate outings, and open-road tests for professional drivers.
