Body found in burnt car

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are investigating a death that was discovered shortly before 11 p.m. Monday.

Officers were sent to 3705 N. LaSalle St. to assist the Indianapolis Fire Department with an active vehicle fire. When the fire was extinguished, authorities discovered a body inside the pickup truck.

The victim was later identified as James Shaw, 23, of Indianapolis.

The Marion County Coroner's office will determine the manner and cause of death.

Anyone with information regarding the crime is asked to call IMPD at 327-3811 or Crime Stoppers at 262-8477. They can also text INDYCS plus tip information to 274627 and remain anonymous.

• Indianapolis champions lung cancer cause

  Local residents are fueling the national movement to double lung cancer survival at the inaugural Free to Breathe Indianapolis Run/Walk June 22 at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis.

  The event will feature a 5k run/walk and 1-mile walk, followed by a rally, tot trot, silent auction, and family activities. Proceeds from the event support the National Lung Cancer Partnership’s programs dedicated to doubling lung cancer survival by 2022.

  A major new festival known as The White River Arts & Music Festival (WARMfest) recently announced that its inaugural three-day event would take place on Labor Day Weekend Aug. 31 through Sept. 2 at Broad Ripple Park in Indianapolis. WARMfest will bring together several key Indianapolis cultural groups including Indy Parks & Recreation, Indie Arts & Vintage Marketplace, and Broad Ripple Music Fest.
