— Ben Davis sent three wrestlers to the Evansville Reitz semistate this past weekend and two came away with championships and more importantly, a trip to Bankers Life Fieldhouse this weekend for the state finals.
Levi Moss (132) followed up his sectional and regional championships with a semistate title. Moss remains undefeated on the season at 35-0 and is the No. 3-ranked wrestler in the state.
Giants sophomore Norman Oglesby followed Moss’ blueprint in the postseason, winning both sectional and regional titles before taking a semistate championship. Oglesby is the No. 17-rated wrestler in Indiana and has been under the radar most of the season, accumulating a 38-4 record along the way.
Ben Davis senior Cesar Guttierrez narrowly missed advancing to the finals, placing fifth. His second round loss, a 7-3 decision, pushed Guttierrez into wrestle backs where he took the best possible place possible. Guttierrez finished the season with a 25-8 record.
The 75th Annual State Tournament at Bankers Life Fieldhouse opens with first-round action at 6 p.m. Friday night. Wrestlers must win their first match to advance into Saturday’s quarterfinal wrestling beginning at 9:30 a.m.
