Legion post to hold veterans benefit

BROWNSBURG — The Brownsburg American Legion Post 331 will be hosting a welcome home gathering from 4 to 10 p.m. Feb. 2 for Brownsburg native and U.S. Army Afghanistan veteran Zach Day that will couple as a dinner, auction, and benefit for the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation (HVAF).

The event is open to the public in the newly smoke-free Legion post. There will be several high dollar items up for auction, a steak dinner (while supplies last), live music, and an opportunity to meet Day, who trekked more than 1,600 miles through 11 states to raise money for homeless veterans.

There will also be some veteran graduates of the HVAF program so patrons can see who their money is going to help and how. All of the tax-deductible donations will go to the HVAF, which provides rehabilitative service for more than 210 homeless veterans at any one time. There are an estimated 300 to 500 homeless veterans living on the street per night in Marion County.

The cost to attend the event is $12. Dinner will be served from 4 to 8 p.m. with the live auction taking place at 7:30 p.m. Live music will begin at 8 p.m.

The post is at 636 E. Main St.
