DANVILLE — Would you like to see local celebrities and public officials dunked in a tank of cold water? How about the chance to win a big screen TV?
If you stop by the Hendricks County 4-H Fair between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, you’ll have the opportunity to do all of that and more during the Hendricks County Flyer Day at the Fair.
Publisher Harold Allen said sponsoring a day at the fair is the paper’s chance to get involved and spend time with the community.
“We decided we should be more involved with the fair,” he said. “It’s a great audience, great event, and it’s good to be out there and give back to the community.”
Aside from the give-aways, including a big screen television, there will also be a chance for visitors to have their photos taken with large cut-outs. The photos will be uploaded to the Flyer’s website and participants will have the ability to upload their photos to their Facebook or Myspace pages, e-mail them to friends, and order a print.
There will be corn hole boards and bean bags out for visitors to play with during the day, and live streaming video of people at the fair that will be shown on the television that will be given away.
“We will also have a banner that we will have for troops that anyone can sign to show support for our troops overseas,” Allen added.
Everything is free to participants, however, the Flyer will be collecting $1 per turn throwing baseballs at the dunk tank. All of the proceeds will go toward Newspapers In Education, which pays for newspapers delivered to local classrooms.
Some of the people up for dunking include local school principals, Brownsburg Town Council President Matt Bowles, and Allen himself.
“We also have numerous giveaways and sign ups for prizes,” Allen said. “This is an opportunity to give back to the community. A lot of times we’re silent partners and this time we’re out there.”
