Warriors fall on senior night

DANVILLE — The Danville boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams lost to Roncalli last night.

The boys fell 110-72 and the girls lost 112-71. Coach Leah Miller said her team is slightly exhausted coming off of the Sagamore Conference meet Saturday and the preparation for sectionals.

“Tonight we’re a little tired,” Miller said. “We’ve been going non-stop Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday for about three weeks now.”

Grant Callahan continued his superb senior season with two victories on the evening. Callahan won the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.44 and the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.87.

“Grant is kind of my guy on the team that I can put anywhere and know that I’m going to get an A plus performance from every night,” Miller said.

Callahan took male swimmer of the Sagamore Conference last Saturday by winning the 50 free and 100 breast. His internal drive has contributed to his successful season.

“That kid never stops,” Miller said. “I will say to do something and he will do extra. I’ll say do this and he’ll add in pushups where he has to clap his hands together. He never skips any workout and if I tell him to stop, he usually tells me no.”

Sophomore Isabelle Mitchell won two events for the Warrior girls. Mitchell won the 100 free with a time of 1:03.24 and the 100 breaststroke with a 1:15.31.

Junior Carly Kroll and sophomore Sydney Kroll each won an individual event on the night. Carly won the 50 free with a time of 28.99 and Sydney won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:14.10.

“The Krolls are another group where they will come in and give me exactly what I ask of them,” Miller said. “They are another group I can kind of put wherever. Sydney doesn’t normally swim the 200 IM and I can put her somewhere and get results. Carly is the same way.”

Junior Kasey Hedrick won diving with a score of 206.25 and sophomore Devon Berg won the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.84.

The Danville girls’ relay teams won two of three relays on the evenings. The 200 medley relay team of Renae Schuldt, Mitchell, and the Krolls opened the event with a win for the Warriors. The 200 freestyle team of Schuldt, Mitchell, Sydney Kroll, and Kendall Startzman won a close one by .01 hundredths of a second.

It was senior night at Danville as the Warriors honored their three seniors — Callahan, Claire Hazelton, and Hannah Weiss.

“They’ve been tremendous,” Miller said. “I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better group of seniors.”
