NOBLESVILLE — Prior to the season Brownsburg football coach Brett Comer talked about the versatility of his team’s running game.
He wasn’t kidding.
Four different Bulldogs ran in for a score Friday as Brownsburg routed host Noblesville 28-0 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
“You limit what a defense can do to you because they have to account for so many people,” Comer said. “We have four people that can carry the ball on any given play.”
Brownsburg’s defense was up to the task as well.
The Millers got into Bulldog territory on five occasions but had nothing to show for it thanks to seven sacks, three forced fumbles, and an interception.
“Hats off to our defense and coordinator Chad Neal – he had a plan that was obviously pretty darn good,” Comer said. “Their quarterback is very dangerous and we bottled him up and hit him. He’s probably tired of getting hit.”
The Bulldogs broke open a scoreless tie when Ivan Beverstock barreled in for a 3-yard touchdown run with 50 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
Brownsburg then recovered an onside kick and four plays later quarterback Robby Robbins scored on a 2-yard touchdown plunge with 11:56 remaining in the second quarter to make it 14-0.
The Bulldogs fumbled deep in their own territory to open the second half, but cornerback Trent Borom picked off Noblesville quarterback Jack Bates in the end zone to help preserve the shutout.
Brownsburg tacked on two more touchdowns in the second half.
Jordan Reagan scored on a 3-yard run with 5:32 left in the third quarter and Chase Dutra broke free on a 32-yard scamper to make it 28-0 with 9:25 left in the game.
“We’re on the road in HCC two weeks in a row and we’re 2-0 so we’re pretty happy with that,” Comer said.
Linebacker A.J. Akinribade had a sack and two forced fumbles for the Bulldogs and defensive end Jacob Milkie had a pair of sacks.
On special teams Kyle Christy had three punts eclipse 50 yards.
Robbins threw for 102 yards while Dutra led the rushing attack with 96 yards. The Bulldogs racked up 195 yards on the ground.
Noblesville (0-2) running back Joey Pasquale finished with 123 yards on 25 carries.
The No. 13 ranked Bulldogs host No. 6 ranked Hamilton Southeastern at 7 p.m. Friday. Both teams are undefeated and the Royals have won four of the last five meetings between the two squads.
“It will be a great ballgame and a great atmosphere,” Comer said. “They are a good team that is always very well coached. I think we are too so it should be a lot of fun.”
