Middle School Updates

Danville Middle School

Seventh-grade basketball

The seventh-grade Warriors girls' basketball team recently defeated Tuttle, 40-16. Scoring for Danville were Addie Collier with 10, Hannah Deno with seven, Jenna Lucas with five, Tori Leistner with four and Anna Easlick, Mallory Barnhart, Brandi Wasson, Rilee Mood, Baylee Muse, and Jenna Sullivan two.

Eighth-grade basketball

The eighth-grade Warriors girls' basketball team recently defeated Tuttle, 54-13. Scoring for Danville were Katie Skinner with eight, Sydney Baker, Ella Davis, Kasey Newby and Kasey Crane with six, Baylee Muncy and Alliyah Summers with five, Emma Dwyer and Cassie Utley with four and Sara Miller and Kendra Newman with two.

Swimming

The Warriors girls’ swim team recently defeated Lebanon, 95-85. Earning first place wins for Danville were Abri DeAtley with four, Kyra Shelley with three, Brenna Shelley, Kacey Cooke and Grace Austin with two each and Halle Higbie, Meredith Perry and Becca Weiss with one.  Notching second place finishes were Breena Shelley, Kacey Cook, and Grace Austin with two each.  Earning third place was Halle Higbie with two, Meredith Perry, Megan McAdams, Katelin Johnson, Kyra Shelley, and Becca Weiss with one.

The Warriors boys' swim team recently lost to Lebanon, 134-51. Placing first for Danville were Jack Clark, Dylan Porter, and Steve Taylor.  Placing second were Andrew Barrows, Jesse Cox, Keegan O'Brien and Jack Clark with two each and Max Terrell with one.  Placing third were Will Nuss with two, Andrew Barrows, Dylan Porter, Keegan O'Brien, Isaiah Byers, Logan Walliser and Max Terrell with one each.

The Warriors girls' swim team recently lost to Plainfield, 134-51. Earning second places finishes were Kacey Cooke with four, Grace Austin with three, Kyra Shelley with two and Abri DeAtley and Brenna Shelley with one. Placing third were Brenna Shelley, Becca Weiss, Meredith Perry, and Kyra Shelley, all with one.

The Warriors girls' swim team recently defeated Frankfort, 97-77. Winning events for Danville were Kacey Cook with three, Kyra Shelley with two and Grace Austin, Meredith Perry, Halle Higbie, and Brenna Shelley with one. Placing second were Abri DeAtley with four, Grace Austin and Halle Higbie with three each, Brenna Shelley with three, Becca Weiss, Meredith Perry, and Kacey Cook with one each. Placing third was Megan McAdams and Kyra Shelley.

The Warrior boys' swim team recently defeated Frankfort 120-20. Placing first for Danville was Andrew Barrows, Jack Clark, William Nuss and Jesse Cox with four each and Dylan Porter, Logan Walliser, Isaiah Byers and Keegan O'Brien with one. Placing second were Steve Taylor and Dylan Porter with two. Placing third was Keegan O'Brien and Isaiah Byers with two each.

 

Plainfield Middle School

Seventh-grade basketball

The seventh-grade girls’ Quaker basketball team recently beat Mooresville, 33-23. The leading scorer for the night was Kara Sumner with 12 points.

Eighth grade-basketball

The eighth-grade girls’ basketball team recently beat Mooresville, 35-24.

Swimming

The Quaker boys’ and girls’ swimmers and divers recently beat Danville. Plainfield won 22 of 24 events. Earning first place wins were Ashley Snoke, Joe Klinger, Kamryn VanWanzeele, Rachel Graves, Kristina Zick, Bradley Byford, Chaz Rhodes, Riley Lautenschlager, Leah Wurtzel, Bianca Gomez, Alyssa Laser, Allyson Carroll, Conner Stinson, Curtis Cloud, Jackson Deal and Weston Whyde.

 

Avon Middle School South

Eighth-grade basketball

The eighth-grade girls’ basketball team recently beat Brownsburg West, 30-17. Katrinia Hopkins led the scoring with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Wrestling

The Avon Middle School South wrestling team recently lost to county rival Danville Community Middle School, 57-50. Winning for South was James Betzold, Camden Gongwer, Caleb Alvarez, Christian Schabel, Jacob Clark, Spencer Strobel, Nick Price, Kameron Caudle, Drew Williamson and Nick Rapp.

The Avon South wrestling team came out with a big victory against county rival Brownsburg West, defeating the Bulldogs on their home turf, 48 – 41.  Drew Williamson started off the dual with a pin, followed by wins from James Betzold, Avery Cochran, Noah Driskell, Caleb Alvarez, Jacob Clark, Spencer Strobel, Andrew Frank, and Cam Kaudle.  The Orioles sealed the victory with a huge win by Parker Kulhanik.  Aydan Baldwin added a junior varsity victory.

    MARTINSVILLE — For the second night in a row, the Plainfield Quakers softball team 10-run ruled a sectional opponent in the fifth inning. After downing Martinsville 12-1 Monday night, Plainfield came back and dispatched Mooresville 13-2.

    TRAFALGAR — The Tri-West Bruins advanced to tomorrow night’s sectional championship after defeating the Beech Grove Hornets 8-3 behind the bat of Kristy Rawlings. Rawlings had an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning that tied the game at two and followed up on her next trip to the plate with a 2 RBI triple that put the Hornets away for good.

    AVON — Winning three matches in four days while overcoming three county rivals, one conference foe and a spot of weather, the Avon Orioles girls’ tennis team won their first sectional title since 2006. Avon won its three matches by a combined 14-1 record and downed Plainfield 5-0 in the finals early Saturday afternoon.
