Smooth Transitions

helps seniors move

Mary Leschorn has started Smooth Transitions West Central Indiana, a company designed to aid seniors in house downsizing and moving to smaller quarters.

Providing services for both senior citizens and their adult children, Leschorn is part of a growing trend of senior move coordinators throughout the country, according to the National Association of Senior Move Managers, www.nasmm.com.

Leschorn is prepared to help seniors and their adult children with all of the details of what can be a traumatic situation. She has performed several home relocations and has helped her senior mother with five full house moves.

She knows the trials and tribulations of moving from the inside out and has completed training at Smooth Transitions in Louisville, Ky.

Price is Right game

played at senior center

Westside Village Nursing Home and Rehabilitation invites all in the community to join them at the Hendricks County Senior Center for The Price is Right game.

Participants will be asked to guess the price of a number of objects. The person who guesses closest to the real cost wins a prize.

The Price is Right is played at 1 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the senior center, 1201 Sycamore Lane, Danville. The next game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Nov. 17.

HCSS invites community

to check on memory

Hendricks County Senior Services is encouraging members of the community to be proactive about memory health by taking advantage of free, confidential memory screenings and information about successful aging on Nov. 15.

The event is part of National Memory Screening Day (NMSD), an annual initiative that the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) holds each November during National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month. More than 2,000 sites across the country will be participating.

Hendricks County Senior Services will provide the memory screenings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Hendricks County Senior Center, 1201 Sycamore Lane, Danville.

Qualified healthcare professionals administer the screenings, which consist of a series of questions and tasks that take five to 10 minutes to complete. Screening results are not a diagnosis, and individuals with below-normal scores or who have concerns are encouraged to pursue a full medical exam.

To register, call Sharon Severy, Senior Services activities coordinator, at 745-4303.
