Seniors take trip

to Hoosier Park

Hendricks County Senior Services is organizing a trip to Hoosier Park’s spacious, single-level casino on April 15.

The casino features 2,000 slot machines and the most e-table games in the Midwest in denominations ranging from a penny to $100.

The trip is $30 per person. Participants will be transported in a deluxe motorcoach and receive free admission, a $5 coupon for food, and a $10 gambling credit.

The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from the Hendricks County Senior Center, 1201 Sycamore Lane, Danville, and return at about 5:30 p.m.

The fee for the trip is non-refundable but is transferable. Payment is due no later than March 28.

Quit Group meets

at senior center

Hendricks County Senior Services invites anyone interested in quilting to attend its new Quilt Group. Participants range in experience from 40 plus years to only one or two years.

Members learn from each other and share their quilting experience. Both men and women are invited to attend.

The Quilt Group meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Hendricks County Senior Center, 1201 Sycamore Lane, Danville.

Strong for Life

offered in Danville

Strong for Life is a strengthening exercise program designed by physical therapists for use by older adults to improve strength, balance, and overall health. The program targets specific muscles that are important in every day movements, such as getting out of a chair and walking.

The class is 10:30 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Friday of each week at the Hendricks County Senior Center.

 The class itself is free, but there is an initial fee for equipment such as bands and handles of $4 per person. As a participant’s strength improves and they move to a stronger band, they may be purchased for $2.

The Strong For Life class is supported by a grant from CICOA Aging and In-Home Services.

Breakfast Club

to meet March 14

Hendricks County Senior Services invites senior citizens to attend The Breakfast Club, presented by the Hatfield Family, at 9 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month at the Hendricks County Senior Center.

The next Breakfast Club meeting is 9 a.m. March 14.

The Breakfast Club offers a continental style breakfast consisting of biscuits and gravy, pastries, fruit, milk, fruit juices, coffee, and some surprises along the way.

Along with breakfast, there is entertainment from month to month including gospel, bluegrass and country music. This month’s entertainment will be provided by Wesley Gray.

The Breakfast Club is an opportunity to get together with friends and family for fun and food, and also to find new friends. The cost is $6 at the door and then a freewill offering will be taken to support the event.

Breakfast is served at 9 a.m. with music from 9:45 to 11 a.m.

Senior center

offers Tai Chi

Tai Chi classes are held at 3 p.m. each Wednesday at the Hendricks County Senior Center.

Membership in the Senior Center is required to participate.

The cost is $5 per class.

Tai Chi is described as an internal martial art used to improve health. Movements flow slowly from one to the next as participants move their hands and feet, and shift weight. Studies show Tai Chi may help reduce stress, improve balance, improve heart and immune health, increase flexibility, improve mood, and energize participants.

Tai Chi Easy is a modified Tai Chi program that allows for easy application into a daily routine. Tai Chi Easy can be learned by anyone, in any physical condition, anywhere. No experience is necessary and no special equipment is needed.
