Tai Chi is back

at senior center

A new six-week series of Tai Chi classes will start soon at Hendricks County Senior Services.

The classes are conducted 2 p.m. on Wednesdays. The one-hour class is done in six-week sessions.

Tai Chi is an internal martial art used to improve health. Movements flow slowly from one to the next as participants move the hands, feet, and shift weight. It’s a moving meditation. Studies show Tai Chi may help reduce stress, improve balance, improve heart and immune health, increase flexibility, improve mood, and energize participants.

Tai Chi Easy is a modified Tai Chi program that allows for easy application into a daily routine. Tai Chi Easy can be learned by anyone, in any physical condition, anywhere. No experience is necessary and no special equipment is needed. The movements will be standing, not moving the feet.  

Participants will learn five Tai Chi movements: Qi Gong breathing exercises, self hand and foot massage, meditation, health, and relaxation tips.

Cost for the Tai Chi Easy six-week session is $30. Payment must be made in advance. A minimum class size is required. To register call 745-4303.

Senior Services hosts

Breakfast Club Aug. 9

Hendricks County Senior Services invites guests to attend The Breakfast Club, presented by the Hatfield family, which is conducted 9 a.m. the second Thursday of every month at the Hendricks County Senior Center. The next Breakfast Club is 9 a.m. Aug. 9.

The Breakfast Club offers a continental-style breakfast of pastries, fruit, milk, fruit juices, and coffee, and some surprises along the way.

Along with breakfast, there is entertainment from month to month including gospel, bluegrass, and country music. The Breakfast Club is an opportunity to get together with friends and family for fun and good food, and also to find new friends. Cost is a $5 donation at the door. There is also a freewill offering taken up to support the event.

Breakfast begins at 9 a.m. with music to follow from 9:45 to 11 a.m.

Hendricks County Senior Center is at 1201 Sycamore Lane in Danville.

Strength-building class

now offered at center

Gaining strength with the help of a personal trainer is a good way to improve health and wellness. Hendricks County Senior Services is hosting a summer strength class.

The focus is on muscular strength and conditioning. The class uses free weights and machines in a group setting.

Instructor and owner of Move Fitness, Amber White, teaches the class, which is at 7 p.m. each Thursday in the Hendricks County Senior Center. Participants must also be members of the senior center, which is $25 a year, to be able to participate.

Classes are $5 per class.

Following the class, White conducts a cardio fit class for one hour. Cost for that class is $5 per person.

‘Courtyard Soiree’ offers

two more dates

The Hearth at Prestwick will have its Third Tuesday “Courtyard Soiree” in an outdoor venue Aug. 21 and Sept. 18. 

The public is invited to these free concerts, which begin with a buffet-style dinner at 6:30 p.m. Guests may bring a lawn chair and sit in the courtyard to enjoy the dinner provided, while enjoying musical entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. 

Tom Wright will croon his “Radio Nights” concert at 7 p.m. Aug. 21. Gary Vidito changes the tempo with folk songs by James Taylor, John Denver, and Peter, Paul & Mary at 7 p.m. Sept. 18.

Reservations are required and may be made now, for August, and after Sept. 1 for the September concert by calling 745-2766.
