PLAINFIELD — Eight high school seniors will be able to pursue their dreams of higher education with some financial help from the State Bank of Lizton.
In November of 2000, the bank’s board of directors and officers announced the creation of the State Bank of Lizton Community Bankers Scholarship program. To date, the bank has donated more than $300,000 to local students.
As the bank has grown, so has the scholarship program. In 2006, Avon High School and in 2007, Zionsville Community High School were added to the program that had previously included Brownsburg, Bethesda Christian, Lebanon, Tri-West, and Western Boone high schools.
The bank opened a new location in Plainfield in December and Les Mongell, president of the State Bank of Lizton, presented a pledge of $80,000 in scholarships to Scott Olinger, superintendent of Plainfield schools.
One scholarship will be presented to a graduating senior at Plainfield Community High School for each of the next 20 years. Each scholarship is worth $1,000 per year, renewable for up to three additional years.
After Feb. 1, 2010, high school seniors are encouraged to visit their high school guidance offices or the scholarship links on the websites of the Community Foundation of Boone County and the Hendricks County Community Foundation for eligibility requirements and scholarship applications.
Since the scholarships are administered through a third party, the State Bank of Lizton does not have, nor accept, completed scholarship applications at their bank locations.
All applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2010. Recipients will be announced at the high school awards night.
