BROWNSBURG — BROWNSBURG — Students at St. Malachy School in Brownsburg recently got an opportunity to repay teachers for any extra homework, boring lectures, or lost recess time.
Teachers and staff members graciously took pies to the face from students for a good cause.
When school counselor Patrice Uminski’s home was damaged by fire, the school body mobilized to show their support. Damage to Uminski’s home was a result of a fire that destroyed her neighbor’s home and spread to hers. No one was injured in the blaze, but the resulting damage was extensive.
Students gathered during an all-school assembly and made small donations for a chance to throw whipped cream pies at teachers. Teachers tried to protect themselves with towels and wraps, but in the end, the students prevailed in a messy, but fun, onslaught.
Students also participated in a cake walk, where more than 108 baked goods were donated with just an evening’s notice. The event netted more than $1,500 to help Uminski and her family.
