William J. Vedder of Plainfield died Dec. 1. He was 86.

Born Dec. 23, 1925, in Rush County, he was a son of the late Paul and Nancy (Estes) Vedder.

Mr. Vedder served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and later in the Indiana Air National Guard. He worked more than 35 years in the experimental testing department at the GM Allisons Gas Turbine Plant before retiring in 1987.

Survivors include sons James W., Thomas P. (Karla), Robert A. (Peach), and David M. (Kim) Vedder; daughters Janice M. (Sean) Porter, Kathryn A. (Joe) Meyer, Linda J. (Larry) Harvell, and Elaine S. (Mike) Martin; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Dorothy A. (Slaughter) Vedder.

Services were Dec. 4 at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield. Entombment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield.
