Robert Lee Thomas of Avon died Monday in Danville. He was 71.
Mr. Thomas was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked 38 years as an electrician at Rexnord Corporation.
He had been a reserve deputy for the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department, a special deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, a volunteer disaster duty officer and first aid instructor for the American Red Cross, and worked several years as an emergency medical technician for Parr-Lance Ambulance.
Mr. Thomas was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Bridgeport Masonic Lodge No. 162, and volunteered six years with Avon Marching Band. He was also a retired volunteer for the Washington Township Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Donna M. Ruegamer Thomas; daughters and a son-in-law, Debra E. and Todd Vanover and Brenda S. Simpson; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia Ann and Gerald Roth; grandchildren Chad R. Vanover and wife Carrie, and Crystal M. Browning and husband Ian; and great-grandchildren Kadin T. and Breanna C. Browning.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Conkle Funeral Home in Avon. Interment will be at Lincoln Memory Gardens.
Calling at the funeral home is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
