Paul H. Vogel of Avon died Monday in Danville. He was 81.
Mr. Vogel earned a air frame and power plant certificate from Vincennes University and then attended Evansville University for 1 1/2 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a trooper with the Indiana State Police and then became a pilot. He retired with the rank of major after 24 years. Following retirement, he worked as a pilot in the private sector.
He was a Sagamore of the Wabash, and a member of Avon United Methodist Church, Experimental Aircraft Association, and Quiet Birdmen. He was a licensed pilot in fixed-wing, helicopter, and jet with more than 14,500 hours of flying time.
Survivors include his wife, Betty S. Kemmerling Vogel; sons Jeffrey Vogel (Maria) and Daniel Vogel (Scot Morse); daughters Diane Worthington (Baron) and Donna Vogel Siciliani (Michael); brothers Albert and James Vogel; sisters Esther Hoops ad Norma Bowen; and grandchildren Eric and Katie Vogel, and Kemmerling Adele Worthington.
Services are 3 p.m. Friday at Avon United Methodist Church.
Calling is for two hours prior to the service at the church.
