Marjorie L. Perry of Indianapolis died Tuesday.
Born Oct. 4, 1928, in Lawrence County, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Leslie and Beatrice O’Grady Smith. She was the widow of Raymond Perry, who died in 1994.
Mrs. Perry graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1946. She worked 30 years for the federal government, serving in administration for the U.S. Department of Interior, U.S. Department of Labor, and U.S. Small Business Administration.
Following retirement, she spent a year in Cote d’Ivoire, West Africa, serving with Ivory Coast Christian Mission. She then worked 13 years as a secretary for Clermont Christian Church, before retiring again in 2009. During those years, she returned to West Africa many times as a short-term support missionary.
Mrs. Perry has been a member of Kingsway Christian Church since 1982, when the family relocated to the Avon area. She was active in the Greeter Ministry, the Women’s Ministry, the Children’s Ministry, the Mentoring Ministry, the adult choir, and served as a volunteer receptionist.
Survivors include daughters Rita Arnold and Susan Suhre, both of Indianapolis; sons Michael Perry of Avon and Thomas Perry of Mooresville; sisters Pearl Ready of Bloomington and Carolyn Legg of Lawrenceville, Ill.; a brother, Darrell Smith of Martinsville; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Marie Wolfe, and brothers Robert Smith, Ralph Smith, and Eugene Smith.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Kingsway Christian Church in Avon. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield.
Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg.
