James R. Sparks Sr. of Plainfield died Tuesday at Hendricks Regional health in Danville. He was 76.
Born Sept. 10, 1936, in Owensboro, Ky., he was a son of the late Carl and Hazel Henning Sparks. He married Donelda Terry on Aug. 29, 1981.
James worked 10 years as a driver for Roland’s Golden Memories Retirement Club. Previously he was a truck driver for Kogers, Inc. and Neier Trucking Company. He also served as a firefighter and police officer in Greencastle.
Survivors include his wife, Donelda Sparks; children Tony Sparks and wife Kathy, Debbie Hancock and husband Mark, Vangie Lawson, and Chris Sparks and wife Kerri; grandchildren Amy, Danielle, Marley, Kaileigh, Beau, Norman, Candi, and Wendi; great-grandchildren Keegan, Harley, Desirae, and Hunter; three brothers and their wives.
Preceding him in death was a son, James Sparks Jr., and a brother, Tommy Sparks.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Hall-Baker Funeral Home in Plainfield. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. Following interment a memorial gathering will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Roland’s Golden Memories, 855 Southfield Drive, Plainfield.
