Larry R. Fisher


— Larry R. Fisher of Albuquerque, N.M., and formerly of Greencastle died Sept. 11 in his home. He was 65.

He was born Dec. 6, 1946, in Indianapolis. He was a 1964 Greencastle High School graduate and a graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in English as well as Indiana State University for accounting.

Mr. Fisher was a four-year Army veteran, serving in the Headquarters Company in Vietnam and Germany. He worked for the Veterans Hospital in Albuquerque.

In his youth Mr. Fisher was active in 4-H and Boy Scouts. He was a lifelong member of Putnamville United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer, adult Sunday school teacher, and choir member. He also sang in the Putnamville Quartet; was a prolific writer of songs, poetry, and short stories; and loved the outdoors, especially the West, where he worked on several large ranches as a young man.

Survivors include his mother, Corena (Rena) Hatcher Webster of Plainfield; sisters Linda Carney of Greenwood and Gayle (Craig) Halleck of Plainfield; niece Rachelle (Cary) Morris and their son Evan of Greenwood; nephews Scott Nichols of Richwood, Texas, Brandon Halleck and his son Dylan of Terre Haute, Bradley Halleck of Terre Haute, and Bryan Halleck of Plainfield; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, William Webster; father, Thomas Fisher; maternal grandparents, George and Lona Hatcher; brother-in-law, Richard (Al) Carney; and an aunt, Cova and her husband Walter Simpson.

Services with military honors are 2 p.m. Sept. 19 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, 602 E. Washington St., Greencastle. Calling is for three hours prior to services.
