Dorothy H. Smith

Dorothy H. Smith of Pittsboro died Monday at Hendricks Regional Rehabilitation Center in Danville. She was 96.

Born May 23, 1916, in Hendricks County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac Herman and Hazel Mae (Yount) Rains. She graduated from Pittsboro High School in 1934 and married Arthur Smith on June 26, 1938.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Pittsboro United Methodist Church and was the church organist for many years.

She and her husband had worked together for Gregory Funeral Home until Mr. Smith died in 1976. She continued to work as a receptionist there, even after it was purchased by David A. Hall. She also served as the organist for David A. Hall Mortuary.

Survivors include a son, Richard L. Smith; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was a brother and sister.

Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at David A. Hall Mortuary, 220 N. Maple St., Pittsboro. Interment will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Jamestown.

Calling is for two hours prior to the service at the mortuary.
