John Overman died Tuesday at his Avon home. He was 93.
Born Dec. 24,1918, he was a son of Earl and Pearl Overman. He married Bertha (Rednour) Shelton in 1960, and she died in 2010.
Mr. Overman served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for more than 30 years as a welder specialist at Allisons in Indianapolis before retiring in 1980.
He enjoyed auto restoration and music.
Survivors include sons Earl Overman of Avon, Sam Shelton and wife Shirley of Monticello, Ky., Donald Shelton of Indianapolis, and Joe Shelton and wife Brenda of Avon; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a grandson, Earl Overman Jr., and a sister, Meridith Cain.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home in Danville. Interment with full military honors will be at Spring Hill Cemetery in Cartersburg.
