Rosalind “Rose” Marie Mardis of Danville died Wednesday in her son’s home, where she had lived since November 2009. She was 89.
Born Aug. 28, 1922, at Muncie, she was the daughter of Thomas Edward and Eva Elizabeth (Jordan) Skillman. She was married to James R. Mardis, Carl T. Dillon, and Leonard R. Mardis — all of whom preceded her in death.
Mrs. Mardis lived most of her life in Muncie, but also had resided in Indianapolis (Beech Grove), Ninevah, and Yorktown.
She graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1940. Her memberships included Walnut Street Baptist Church and Creekwood Baptist Church in Muncie. She also attended Fair Haven Christian Church in Trafalgar and most recently Danville Friends Church.
Survivors include three children, Terry Mardis and wife Alicia of Danville, Bonnie Holt of Lafayette, and Matt Mardis of Muncie; and several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were four siblings, Grace Huffman, Margaret Hines, Thomas Skillman, and Mary Colcold; and a son, Richard “Rick” Dillon (wife Marilyn) of Farmsville, Ohio.
Services are 2 p.m. Aug. 7 at Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor Mike Thornburg officiating.
Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.
Visitation is for two hours prior to services in the mortuary.
