Frances Sims Nicely died Thursday at her Danville home. She was 96 and had formerly resided in Fowler.
Born March 23, 1913, in Fayette, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Francis M. and Stella Jenkins Sims. She married Maurice Delos Nicely of Goodland in 1936, and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Nicely graduated from Antwerp Ohio High School in 1931. The Nicelys owned the Fowler IGA store until 1964. Mrs. Nicely also owned and operated a custom sewing and alteration business in Fowler.
Prior to moving to Fowler in 1956, she and her family resided in Oxford for 17 years. While there, she was co-owner of Nicely’s Grocery and a insurance agency in Oxford.
She was an elder in the Fowler Presbyterian Church and a member of the Benton County Country Club. She was an accomplished golfer and enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, and reading.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judith N. and James Main of Danville; sons and daughters-in-law Stephen M. and Karen Nicely of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Gregory P. and Donna Nicely of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; grandchildren Kathy Wagley and husband Matt of Danville, Allen Eberly and wife April of Indianapolis, Maury Nicely and wife Jennifer, Matthew Nicely, and Elizabeth Nicely, all of Chattanooga; five great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were a daughter, Mary Josephine Nicely, three brothers, and six sisters.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Conkle Funeral Home, 76 N. S.R. 267, Avon, with the Rev. Karen Devaisher officiating. Interment will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Fowler Cemetery with the Rev. Ann Williams officiating.
Calling at the funeral home is for an hour prior to the service on Saturday.
