Fern Jordan Cox Hadley

Fern Jordan Cox Hadley of Danville died Friday. She was 103.

Born Dec. 1, 1909, in North Salem, she was a daughter of Harry and Lilly Jordan. She was the widow of Earl Cox. She married Judge George Hadley in 1958 and he died in ‘59.

Mrs. Hadley attended North Salem High School and completed her education in 1930 at Central Normal College in Danville. She taught school in North Salem for nine years and she and her first husband owned and operated the Cox Funeral Home in North Salem for 19 years.

She later moved to Danville and served as a probation officer and bailiff of the Hendricks County Circuit Court for more than 18 years. She was also the first employee of the Hendricks County Welfare Department and she is credited with establishing, managing, and developing the original Hendricks County welfare program.

Mrs. Hadley was a member of Order of Eastern Star for more than 75 years.

Survivors include a nephew, David (Maggie) Jordan of North Salem; and great-nephews and great-nieces Jamie (Kim), Joe (Bridget), Michael (Karen), Javona (Tim), Marcia (Stephen), Alicia, and Carol (Michael).

Preceding her in death was a brother, Joe Jordan.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Porter Funeral Home in North Salem. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
