Phyllis Ellen McIver Bennett of Brownsburg died Friday. She was 82.
Born Oct. 21, 1929, in Paoli, she was a daughter of Charles and Bertha (James) McIver. She married Charles Barton Bennett on New Year’s Eve in 1948 and they were together for 59 years until his death in 2007.
Mrs. Bennett spent her youth in the Fountain Square area of Indianapolis, where she attended Emmerich Manual High School.
She enjoyed tracing family history, card games, and was active in her church. She was also an avid reader of mysteries and enjoyed PBS and BBC dramas and mysteries. She was also an accomplished quilter.
In retirement, she and her husband traveled around the Midwest’s small towns in search of any records of family history.
Survivors include sons Michael and wife Susan, Charles, and William and wife Pamela; grandchildren Frederick, Patrick, Kristina, and Amy; and great-grandchildren James, Celestia, and Lily.
Preceding her in death was a daughter, Barbara Kingery.
Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Flanner and Buchanan Mortuary in Speedway. Interment will be at Orchard Hill Cemetery.
Calling at the mortuary is for an hour prior to the service.
