Calvin E. Jones of Avon died Feb. 6, 2013. He was 86.
Born Dec. 23, 1926, in Leslie County, Ky., he was a son of the late Clarence and Zella Pennington Jones.
Mr. Jones was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked 13 years as a coal miner at V&C Coal Co., before working 30 years as a skilled tradesmen for Allisons Division of GM. After retiring from Allisons, he worked 15 years for FedEx before retiring in 2009.
He was a member of Living Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dora A. (Herron) Jones; children Terry and Tim Jones, Phyllis (Jeff) Lawrence, and Melissa (John) Stevens; honorary children John and April Francis; sisters Hazel Carter, Bernice (Henry) White, and Ruth Sloan; a brother, Wendell Hoskins; grandchildren Carrie (Marty) Limeberry, Sara (Derek) Frye, Max, Steven and Dylan Jones; and honorary grandchildren Briwana Francis and Marcus Griffin.
Preceding him in death were his step-mother, Elizabeth Jones, and brothers Lee Jones and JC Hoskins.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield. Interment will be at Floral Park Cemetery.
Calling at the funeral home is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
