Poison to headline Carb Day concert

INDIANAPOLIS — Poison will perform live May 24 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway when the band headlines the Coors Light Carb Day concert.

The concert, free with Coors Light Carb Day admission of $20, will take place on the Coors Light Stage in the IMS infield. Coors Light Carb Day tickets are available now online at www.ims.com/tickets.

"Capping off Coors Light Carb Day with a high-powered, entertaining concert like we will see from Poison is a great way to celebrate the beginning of race weekend," said Jeff Belskus, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president and chief executive officer, in a press release. "Poison has produced hits and entertained crowds around the world for more than 25 years, and our fans will have a great time during their energy-filled show."

Poison is one of the greatest pop-metal bands of all time. The band has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide on the strength of 10 singles that have reached the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, including the smash No. 1 single "Every Rose Has Its Thorn."

Other classic Poison hits include "Talk Dirty To Me," "Nothin' But A Good Time," "Fallen Angel," "Your Momma Don't Dance," "Unskinny Bop," and "Something To Believe In."

Poison formed among friends Bret Michaels, Rikki Rockett, and Bobby Dall in the early 1980s in Harrisburg, Pa. The band traveled to Los Angeles in 1984 in search of stardom in the explosive glam-rock scene, recruiting guitarist CC DeVille in the City of Angels.

The band's national breakthrough came in 1986 with the release of its debut studio album, "Look What The Cat Dragged In," which soared to No. 3 on The Billboard 200.

That was the first of three consecutive albums to chart in the top three of the Billboard chart between 1986 and 1990, along with "Open Up And Say ... Ahh!" (1988) and "Flesh And Blood" (1990).

Since a successful reunion tour in 1999, the band has toured relentlessly and recorded new and cover material, remaining one of the most powerful, exciting live acts in rock.

Poison's current lineup is its original, incendiary quartet of Michaels (vocals, acoustic guitars, harp), Rockett (drums, percussion, backing vocals), DeVille (guitars, backing vocals), and Dall (bass, backing vocals).

Michaels and DeVille also have become reality television stars in recent years. Michaels' latest TV venture is the new series "Rock My RV," set to debut in May 2013 on the Travel Channel.

The Coors Light Carb Day Concert featuring Poison will be the finale of an action-packed day at IMS. Also scheduled are the final practice for the 33 starters in the Indianapolis 500, the Firestone Freedom 100 race for Firestone Indy Lights, and the popular Indy 500 Pit Stop Challenge.

The 2013 Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for noon May 26.
