The Indiana Department of Correction’s Reception-Diagnostic Center in Plainfield recently concluded a canned food drive, with staff donating more than 300 food items.
The items were divided among the St. Marks Food Pantry in Plainfield and the Healing Streams Revival Food Pantry in western Hendricks County.
Tina Smith, pastor of the Healing Streams Revival Church, said they were very thankful for the donation and that the food will help struggling families, including those who have recently lost jobs, as well as single parent families.
“The food you donated will help feed approximately 20 families,” she said in a press release.
Reception-Diagnostic Center Superintendent Beckie Bennett also expressed her gratitude for the donations made by the staff.
“It’s very heartwarming that our staff continue to make donations such as this, given the current economic conditions,” she said. “Christmas is a time of giving, and this truly shows the generosity of our staff in helping those that are less fortunate.”
The Reception-Diagnostic Center is a maximum security intake facility for adult males.
