Events planned to support Project A.N.G.E.L.

AVON — Several opportunities to help Project A.N.G.E.L. have been planned for the next few weeks for those looking to volunteer or donate.

Project A.N.G.E.L. offers families who need a little extra help at Christmas time with gifts and food. The name stands for Area Neighbors Giving Extra Love. The Hendricks County based non-profit organization was created to help improve the quality of live in the community.

Nikki Shriner, vice president of the board of directors for Project A.N.G.E.L., said she’s excited about two upcoming events designed to help generate donations for the program.

The first is a food drive that has been spearheaded by the Avon Community School Corporation.

She said Cornerstone Chiropractic has already collected more than 12,000 pounds of food for the drive.

“We hope that will encourage other businesses to get involved and donate,” Shriner said. “We do help people countywide so this week and next week we need to collect a lot of items.”

She said last year the project helped 350 families. Each family fills out an application and has the children fill out a wish list for Christmas. Project organizers try to fill those wish lists with the donations of toys, clothes, and money. The families are also presented with non-perishable food items.

“And there are so many more people who need help this year,” Shriner said. “Our donations are way down so we still need a lot of help.”

Donations may be made from 8 a.m. to noon at the Washington Township Government Center, 311 Production Drive, Avon, until Dec. 11. Volunteers will be separating non-perishable food items each evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, until Dec. 14. The items will be delivered Dec. 19.

Legends Pub & Grill will also be hosting a fundraiser for Project A.N.G.E.L. on the evening of Dec. 12. There will be a concert by Indianapolis-based band Just A Whim. The pub will be collecting an optional $5 charge at the door which will all go to the project. There will also be door prizes for those who attend.

For more information on how to volunteer, call Project A.N.G.E.L. at 272-6100.
