Artists’ Studio presents ‘Sound of Music’

The Artists’ Studio announces reserved seating for its Christmas production of “The Sound of Music” from Dec. 4 through Jan. 2. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays, and 5 p.m. Sundays.

The Artists’ Studio’s production of “The Sound of Music” stars Alli Miller as Maria, Mark McSweeney as Captain Von Trapp, and Justine Taylor-Earls as Mother Abbess. The Von Trapp children are double-cast and will be played by Kristin McSweeney and Syndey Sorrell as Liesel, Josh Kats as Friedrich, Grace Ruddell and Kelsey Hopper as Louisa, Chase Andrzejewski as Kurt, Hayley Renckly and Gabrielle McAree as Brigitta, Kate Michael and Megan McCabe as Marta, Kerrigan McSweeney and Annie Cushman as Gretl, and Daniel Young and Zach Hopper as Rolf.

Musical Director and Artists’ Studio owner David Young said, “We presented ‘The Sound of Music’ two years ago and audiences really embraced the story. We knew we had to bring the show back because patrons absolutely demanded it.”

“The Sound of Music” is the final collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein and has become the world’s most beloved musical. Set on the brink of World War II, the story revolves around Maria, a postulant who proves to be too high-spirited for the religious life. She is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of Captain Von Trapp. Maria’s rapport with the children along with her generosity of spirit will win the hearts of everyone she comes in contact with, including the audience. The show includes such classic songs as “Do-Re-Me,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” and “The Lonely Goatherd.”

Director Joellyn Young said, “I am working with a phenomenal group of actors, young and old alike. This show is a classic and often performed around town, but it is not a simple story to tell. The cast has really worked hard to get all the nuances and emotions that go along with ‘The Sound of Music.’”

Tickets for “The Sound of Music” are $15 for adults and $11 for children younger than 12 and can be purchased by calling 594-5070, online at artists-studio.com, or at The Artists’ Studio box office. The Artists’ Studio is at 12810 Ford Drive, just off 126th street and State Road 37.
