BROWNSBURG — The Journey Church is preparing to give back to the community during the holiday season and got a head start last weekend by hosting its third annual Little Bit of Christmas Craft Show.
The congregation will also be hosting a special garage sale that is free to those in the community who need a little help. Debbie Wingler is one of the church members helping with that event.
“Right now we are collecting donations of gently used items such as furniture and clothing,” Wingler said. “We will set up our fellowship hall like a department store.”
Wingler’s husband, Mark, is the pastor of the church.
Those attending the event will receive a card with how much they can spend on it. It will be based on the number of people in the family and the need they have.
“We also have 100 stockings stuffed for the first 100 children attending,” Wingler said. “We will personalize the stockings with the child’s name.”
Santa will be on site the day of the sale to greet children and present them with new gifts.
“We want people to come in an get what they need,” Wingler said. “They can either re-gift the items or just take them home and use them. We just want to share our blessings with others who may need them.”
The church doors will be open for collections from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 28. Those who cannot make it to the church to drop off items may call the church to make arrangements for pick up.
The sale will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 5.
Soaring Eagle Outreach will be hosting a free Thanksgiving dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 26.
The dinner is intended to serve families and individuals who might not otherwise have a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
The Journey Church is at 6690 E. U.S. 136, a half mile west of the intersection of State Road 267 and U.S. 136.
“We want to be a church that gives back to the community,” Wingler said. “We like to say we are giving a hand up, not a hand out.”
