Indy man arrested for ‘tagging’

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man was arrested for painting graffiti in public places and causing more than $100,000 worth of damage to public and private buildings.

Miguel Villanueva, 23, also known as “Choke,” was arrested Nov. 5 and has been charged with three counts of criminal mischief.

Crime Stoppers released its latest Wanted Poster Nov. 2, which included a request for information leading to the arrest of a tagger. It is the first time Crime Stoppers has requested information on a tagger.

A picture of a graffiti word “CHOKE” was an example of the tagger’s work used in the poster.

The graffiti caused $3,000 worth of damage to a building at 333 S. East St.; $10,000 worth of damage to a building at 150 E. 10th St.; and about $3,500 worth of damage to a building and vehicles at 2020 N. Illinois St.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police detective Frank Miller made the possible identify of Villanueva and a warrant was issued. Miller interviewed Villanueva and determined that he was “Choke.”

Villanueva was transported to Central Receiving.
