SPEEDWAY — Four juveniles here were arrested after breaking into an athletic apparel store last Wednesday.
The four, whose names are not being made public because of their age, were arrested after they were picked out from security camera footage from the Foot Locker store at 5852 Crawfordsville Road.
Speedway Police Officer Matt Turpin responded to a break in alarm at the store, where he noticed the rear door to the business had been pried open. Turpin then located a bicycle and pry bar on the ground near the door, but the suspects had already fled from the store.
SPD Sgt. Mike Hart checked the immediate area and spoke to someone who had seen two juvenile males walking near the area. The witness provided Hart with a description.
Hart reported that he observed the suspects sitting on the steps outside of 5811 W. 25th St.
In addition, an employee of Foot Locker met Turpin at the store, where the employee played video footage of the burglary taken by the store’s surveillance camera.
Police say Turpin met with Hart and was able to identify the pair of juveniles being detained as two of the suspects on the videotape.
Police say the juveniles then took them to where they had stashed the stolen merchandise in nearby yards.
The other two suspects were located at 21st Street and Lynhurst Drive, and police say they still had some of the stolen objects in their possession.
According to a press release, officers were able to recover $1,000 in stolen merchandise.
The ages of the suspects ranged from 13 to 15. The juveniles were charged with burglary and theft and taken to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Facility.
