INDIANAPOLIS — Coming off a season in 2008 when they finished 10th at the ISSMA Marching Band State Finals, the Ben Davis “Marching Giants” had quite a bit of hype to live up to.
Ben Davis met that challenge and then some, finishing fifth in Class A of the state finals Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Avon won the class and was followed by Lawrence Central, Center Grove, Homestead (Ft. Wayne), and Ben Davis.
More than 40 bands from throughout the state competing in four classes in the state finals.
Northview High School from Brazil won Class B. Western High School from Russiaville claimed the Class C title. Lewis Cass High School from Walton took the Class D crown.
The title of Ben Davis’ 2009 show was “The Silk Road.”
This was the Marching Giants’ best finish since 2007, when they finished third at the state competition. In addition, Ben Davis finished 10th at last year’s Bands of America Grand Nationals competition, also at Lucas Oil Stadium.
