No one injured in blaze

AVON — A fire Wednesday partially destroyed a mobile home in the Avon Lakes subdivision at 2135 Redland Road here.

Homeowner Judy Pennington was not at home when the fire began. Her three grandchildren who reside with her at the home and the family dog were also out of the house during the fire.

“I’m just glad my husband wasn’t here, he’s in a wheelchair and handicapped,” Pennington said. “The dog is OK, the kids are in school.”

She said a neighbor alerted her son to the fire and he called his mother to tell her what was happening. Pennington’s son also resides in Avon Lakes.

Levi Carpenter, fire marshall for the Avon-Washington Township fire department, said it was due to the quick action on the part of the neighbors and the firefighters that the home was not a complete loss.

The call came in at 12:06 p.m. with smoke showing out of the home. The Avon-Washington Township Fire Department, Wayne Township Fire Department, and the Brownsburg Fire Territory all responded to the scene.

Carpenter said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
