Church Federation prepares for winter coat drive

With the economy still struggling to recover, many people will no doubt be without essential items during the winter months.

In order to help with that, the Plainfield Church Federation and the Christian Support Center are holding their third annual Hendricks County Winter Warmth coat drive.

“We hope to do better this year,” said Andrea Flood, one of the leaders of the drive. “We are trying to do a better job getting the word out, so that we can help more people.”

The last couple of years, the drive distributed about 80 coats to people in need throughout the county. Flood said she believes there will be an even greater need this year.

They are looking for clean, slightly used, or new coats of all sizes.

Flood said several churches and businesses have jumped on board to assist the drive by serving as drop off points. Coats can be dropped off at any of the following locations between Oct. 1 and 15:

- First Baptist Church of Plainfield;

- St. Susanna Catholic Church, Plainfield;

- Hope Presbyterian Church, Plainfield;

- St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Plainfield;

- Plainfield Eye Care;

- Danville United Methodist Church;

- Danville Friends Church;

- North Salem State Bank, Danville;

- Hazelwood Christian Church;

- Bread of Life, Avon;

- Light and Life Church, Avon; and

- North Salem State Bank, North Salem.

Coats will be distributed to Hendricks County residents in conference room A of the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds & Conference Complex from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 25.

“It’s a good feeling (when you give a coat to someone in need),” Flood said. “That’s why I am in it. There are needs in the county that have to be addressed.”

For more information on the coat drive, call Flood at 432-1716 or Linda Brown at 432-6743.
