The police department here will once again host the Night Out Against Crime event from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 3 on the town municipal grounds.
In the annual event that tells criminals that they are not wanted in the town of Brownsburg, there are several family-friendly events, such as games, giveaways, and a chance to talk to police and fire officials. There will also be food booths available.
Environmentally-friendly elements have been added to this year’s event, including foregoing the use of traditional commemorative plastic bracelets handed out to attendees in past years.
Also, the first 500 attendees who bring in plastic shopping bags to recycle will receive a screen-printed Brownsburg PD logo reusable tote bag. In addition, several recycling receptacles will be available throughout the event grounds to recycle the many plastic bottles of water that are provided to the crowd.
The Hendricks County Substance Abuse Task Force will also be providing special disposal bags that include drop-off dates, instructions, and tox-away day information. They will be accepting prescription drugs for disposal at the Pittsboro Police Department’s Night Out Against Crime event from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Pittsboro Fire Department on U.S. 136, just west of Brownsburg.
Citizens may also bring unwanted or sensitive documents for destruction on site to promote identity theft prevention. The All-Shred document shredding company will be on hand to assist with that. Visitors can bring paper only for destruction in the container of their choice, which will be returned to them. All-Shred recycles 100 percent of the paper waste they collect, which is remanufactured. For every 2,000 pounds of waste collected, 17 trees are saved.
There will also be live music by Big Daddy Caddy, as well as booths from various groups around the county and the town.
